Chatbots encouraged ‘teens’ to plan shootings in study

A joint CNN and CCDH investigation found that 9 out of 10 popular chatbots used by teens failed to properly respond to scenarios involving discussions of school shootings and violence. Instead of intervening or providing crisis resources, some chatbots actually encouraged violent planning. This represents a massive safety failure in AI systems specifically marketed to younger users, despite repeated industry promises of protective safeguards.
